Have you lost a tooth? If so, the gap in your smile can be embarrassing. Along with the impact on your appearance, a lost tooth can also have negative impacts on your oral health. Fortunately, we can address minor tooth loss using a lifelike and custom-made dental bridge.
How Does a Bridge Work?
A bridge literally “bridges” the gap between the teeth left by a missing tooth. The prosthetic consists of one or more pontics, also known as replacement teeth, connected by dental crowns on either end. We then prepare the teeth on each side of the gap and place the crowns onto them. That secures the pontics in the gap and replaces the lost teeth. We can use this option to address between one and three missing teeth.
How Do You Create One?
We will first prepare the teeth receiving the crowns and then take detailed impressions of the smile. We use the detailed impressions we gather to design and then fabricate the completed dental bridge. Once complete, the patient returns to the office so we can place the prosthetic using a powerful bonding agent.
How Do I Maintain My New Prosthetic?
You will need to brush your smile, prosthetic included, twice a day for two minutes each session. We also suggest flossing on either side of every tooth before going to bed. You will also need to clean the area between the top of the gums and the bottom of the prosthetic, where foods can sometimes accumulate. When you come in for regular checkups and cleanings we can examine your prosthetic to ensure it remains strong and lifelike. We can also clean the area to prevent plaque from accumulating and leading to health issues that could threaten your bridge, such as decay, infection, and periodontal disease.
