A New Smile with Porcelain Veneers
Because most cosmetic dental treatments are designed to address a limited scope of problems, smile improvement may sometimes entail more than one solution. For instance, if your teeth are stained, but one or more of them are also chipped or worn down, then teeth whitening alone will not suffice. With porcelain veneers, however, Dr. Khan can use a single procedure to correct a multitude of cosmetic issues, such as:
- Internal, or intrinsic, tooth discoloration
- Excessive tooth wear
- Moderately chipped teeth
- Surface tooth cracks
- Teeth that are misshapen, or slightly out of alignment
- Irregular tooth enamel (i.e., rough spots, craters, bulges, etc.)
- Obvious gaps between teeth
- And more
How Veneers Can Help
To enhance your smile without the need for multiple procedures or excessive dental work, Dr. Khan can recommend placing porcelain veneers over the teeth that need improvement. Each veneer is a wafer-thin shell that is carefully sculpted to mimic a specific tooth’s appearance. The porcelain can be tinted to match the color of your dentition, and is semi-translucent to reflect light in a lifelike manner.
Veneers are ultra-thin, usually less than 0.5 mm, but to fit comfortably, Dr. Khan will first prepare the tooth by gently sculpting its front surface. Once the veneer is created according to your tooth’s unique color, shape, and size, Dr. Khan will bond the porcelain shell to the front of the prepared tooth.
Because they are created and placed separately, veneers retain the natural look of your smile even when several of them are placed. Their diversity and realism make veneers a frequently-preferred solution for smiles that exhibit more than one cosmetic concern.
